Dr Touran Shafiei Research Fellow, Judith Lumley Centre

Touran has a clinical and research background in midwifery. Since completion of her PhD in 2010 (which explored Iranian and Afghan immigrant women's experiences of maternity care, their experiences of postnatal depression and their use of health services after birth) she has worked at Judith Lumley Centre on a number of projects including descriptive studies, evaluation projects, RCT and community based cluster RCT. Touran has an extensive knowledge and expertise of a range of research methodologies. Her research interests include maternal health, perinatal mental health, maternity care and immigrant women's health. She is currently working on an NHMRC funded RCT of telephone peer support to reduce postnatal depression and anxiety in women at increased risk.
