Vanessa White Research Officer, Ctr Health Systems&Dev

CHSD provides research and evaluation services across the national health system. CHSD is well known for its strong research and consultancy work, and its expertise in translating research into policy and practice. CHSD is committed to working collaboratively with planners, purchasers, services, providers and consumers to build capacity to improve the health and wellbeing of the population.

Vanessa commenced at La Trobe University in 2006. Prior to her appointment, she worked with the Parenting Research Centre on the evaluation of a large-scale parent education program for promoting behavioural change in children with intellectual disabilities. From 2003-2005 she was at the Cancer Council Victoria where she managed an NHMRC-funded project ($700,000 budget) involving a clustered randomised control trial to assess the efficacy of a health promotion intervention.

During her time at AIPCA she has been involved in a range of significant national and state-wide evaluation and research projects including:
• the National Evaluation of the Dementia Initiative ($1,000,000 budget) for the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing
• the National Evaluation of Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia (EACHD) Program for the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing
• the Austin Hospital’s Respecting Patients’ Choices Program – promoting advance care planning nationally
• the Connecting Healthcare in Communities (CHIC) Initiative (a Queensland-wide initiative) for Queensland Health
• the impact of the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health (CRCAH)
• the use of video monitoring for medication management through home nursing services for RDNS
• the pilot of the requesting organ and tissue donation for the Australian Government Organ and Tissue Authority
• the evaluation of Queensland Workplaces for Wellness Initiative for Queensland Health
• the evaluation of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Goal Attainment Scaling Rehabilitation Tool
• the evaluation of Senior’s Law Health Justice Partnerships with cohealth and St. Vincent’s Hospital
• the evaluation of Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre
• the evaluation of Aboriginal Summer School for Excellence in Technology and Science (ASSETS) for CSIRO
• the evaluation of cohealth and Justice Connect's Older Person's Legal Service
• the evaluation of Hepatitis Victoria’s programs
• the evaluation of VicHealth’s Alcohol Culture Change Initiative (ACCI)
• the development and trial of an evaluation framework for Adult Mental Health Step Up Step Down (SUSD) services in Queensland for Mind Australia, Neami National and Queensland Health
• the evaluation of St Vincent's Health (Sydney) Health Justice Partnership
• the consultation with local health planners to assist VicHealth provide support to Victoria health planners working on local level health plans
• the developmental evaluation of the Inner Melbourne Connections Program (psychosocial support) for North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network
• the evaluation of VicHealth’s Men's Risky Drinking grants program
• the evaluation of the Haven Homes Accommodation Program for Mind Australia

Vanessa has tutored and lectured in undergraduate psychology at RMIT University while supervising undergraduate research projects. She has also worked as a probationary psychologist in an outpatient service for a private psychiatric hospital and Melbourne Juvenile Justice Centre.
