William Mitchell is an ecologist and early career researcher. His work focusses on guiding conservation decision-making while increasing knowledge about threatened species and the ecosystems which support them. Key contributions include the development of a framework for improving transparency and sustainable management of translocation source populations and informing translocation management for the threatened mallee emu-wren. In his role as a researcher at La Trobe University, and a member of the Threatened Mallee Bird Conservation Action Plan Steering Committee, William has contributed to informing fire management guidelines and general ecology of the suite of threatened birds which make up the threatened mallee bird community of the Murray Mallee. Recently, William's focus has been on developing acoustic call recognisers for the bird species of the Murray Mallee and using eco-acoustics to monitor the condition of this threatened community.
