Dr. Yilmaz is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering at La Trobe University. Prior to joining La Trobe University, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Sharjah and American University of Sharjah, a Research Fellow at Victoria University, and a Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University.

Dr. Yilmaz has an extensive record of publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, with many of his papers receiving significant citation impact within the field. He has successfully secured several competitive research grants and has been recognised among the world’s top 2% scientists in the Stanford University–Elsevier global ranking of scientists. His research interests include climate change, hydrological modelling, flood and drought analysis, statistical hydrology, and the application of artificial intelligence techniques such as deep learning, machine learning and data mining to water and environmental systems.
