BIO
Dr. Gail Ekici and her research in Linguistics on Proficiency-Oriented Language Silence (POLS) is a framing theory that has increased our understanding of the connection of language and 'proficiency silence' during language learning in tertiaty settings (Ekici, 2022). Her insights into the interaction between language, cognition, and ‘proficiency silence’ continue to shape academic discourse and the perception of adult language learning research. Thus, remembering that Ekici's work, is a theory developed so that many others can underpin their work on silence in cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics to eliminate the paucity on research in Education and Social Sciences. Her influential work is particularly relevant in cognitive linguistics, and in education where this understanding can shape pedagogical barriers and therefore attitudes towards various issues. Silence in adult learning can be considered as a tool for monitor and guide (Ekici,2023).
