Dr. Gianmaria Lenti holds a PhD. in Social Anthropology from the National School of Anthropology and History in Mexico City, Mexico. He is currently appointed as Honorary Adjunct at the department of Social Inquiry at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, where he has been working as a tutor and as a research assistant. His research explores the subjectivities, experiences and emotions of migrants in transit through Mexico, Turkey and Greece. During his fieldwork, he conducted a research Stay at Özyeğin University in Istanbul, Turkey, and volunteered in numerous migration-related NGOs in Mexico. He completed a MSc. in Development and International Relations - Global Refugee Studies at Aalborg University, Copenhagen, Denmark, after finalizing a BA. in Languages and Cultural Mediation at the University of Roma Tre, Italy. Besides academia, Gianmaria is engaged in the defense and the promotion of the territory in his home-island Vulcano, in Italy, where he founded the Association for Social Promotion “The Hephaestus Forge”.
