Dr Glen Whittaker is a Senior Lecturer and early career researcher with a clinical and academic background in podiatry. Glen is primarily interested in musculoskeletal conditions of the foot, particularly the heel. Clinically, Glen is an experienced podiatrist who is endorsed to prescribe scheduled medicines. In addition, Glen is the Professional Development coordinator for the Rheumatology Health Professionals Special Interest Group.
Glen completed his PhD in 2019, which evaluated the effectiveness of foot orthoses versus corticosteroid injection for plantar heel pain. Glen has received two awards related to his PhD from the Australian Podiatry Association and the Australian Rheumatology Association. Despite being an early career researcher, Glen is ranked 5th on Web of Science based on the number of publications for the term 'plantar heel pain'. Glen's main research interest is the diagnosis and management of heel pain from both mechanical and inflammatory causes, and developing the professional capabilities of allied health professionals in rheumatology.
Glen is currently involved in several research projects with colleagues and PhD students. Glen recently received a grant to study the clinical features that differentiate mechanical and inflammatory heel pain and a separate grant to survey nursing and allied health professionals working in rheumatology departments. Glen is involved in other projects including the psychological variables associated with foot pain and diagnostic imaging for plantar heel pain. Glen is currently a co-supervisor of 1 PhD student who's project focuses on foot strengthening.
Glen proudly acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations as the Traditional Custodians of the land and its waterways on which he lives and works.
