BIO

Dr Hooman Alavizadeh is currently a lecturer in cybersecurity at the Department of CS&IT, La Trobe University. He holds a PhD in Cybersecurity from Massey University, New Zealand. He has previously been affiliated with University of Sydney, UNSW, Massey University, Unitec Institute of Technology. Before joining La Trobe, he was a lecturer in the school of computer science at the University of Sydney, a research associate at the UNSW Institute of Cyber Security working on threat evaluation and cyber response using AI. He also worked as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer at Massey University, New Zealand and worked on a NZ government project (MBIE) as the part of $6m Trans-Tasman cyber security research program focusing on cybersecurity for AI-based threats.

His research interests are in Proactive Defence Methods, Moving Target Defence (MTD), Security Modeling and Analysis, AI-based cyber attacks and defence - He has so far published in top-tier peer-reviewed journals such as IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (IF:37.5), ACM Computing Surveys (A*), IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing, Future Generation Computer Systems, Computers & Security, ACM Transactions on Privacy and Security and so forth. He has served as PC and panel member of many conferences, and also served as reviewer in many prestigious journals such as Computers and Security, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, etc.

He is currently looking for motivated students (PhD, Masters, and Honours) in cybersecurity. Research supervision areas include, but not limited to, proactive defensive methods: Moving Target Defence (MTD), security modeling and analysis, malware and intrusion detection, cyber defence and response using AI. This can be applied in various network contexts such as cloud, SDN, fog, and IoT.
