Dr Lilian Pearce is an award-winning environmental humanities scholar working across fields of environmental history, human geography and political ecology.

She is a lecturer in environmental humanities at La Trobe University’s Centre for the Study of the Inland. Her interdisciplinary place-based research focuses on two key areas: Environmental histories of contaminated sites, and Environmental policy to support healthy Country and communities. She holds a Bachelor of Science with honours (UTAS) and a PhD in environmental history (ANU).

Pearce's collaborative and applied approach and experience in consulting and public service roles helps her to directly contribute to both policy and practice. She is passionate about building the profile and application of humanities and social sciences in addressing complex and urgent challenges of today. Pearce has a record of substantial public engagement and has an established international readership and network. Her writing appears in academic journals in the fields of history, geography and environmental management and she is published in Aeon, The Griffith Review and The Conversation, and sits on the Editorial Advisory Board of Humans and Nature Press. Her academic publications have been cited 230 times in academic and policy settings, with 67% of articles appearing in top quartile journals. She has a a Google Scholar h-index of 5 and an i10-index of 3. Pearce has proven grant success from ARC, industry and philanthropic bodies, and has contributed to two successful ARC DP applications. She is experienced in managing large projects and budgets and working with colleagues across disciplines and industries, and with donor partnerships.
