BIO
I am a Biologist with PhD in Ecology by the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) in Brazil. I have a broad interest in all kinds of subjects and taxa, but my biggest passion are reptiles in general and snakes in particular. From my undergrad studies to my PhD I researched reproductive ecology Neotropical colubrids, elapids and Boids, with focus of intraspecific geographic variation during my masters to influence of phylogeny and ecomorphology in my PhD. After my PhD, I came to Australia to join Prof Rick Shine group to research the spatial ecology of water pythons in the Northern Territory. Not enough, I continued to work with Rick in the Australian tropics, on behaviour of cane toads, their parasites and effects on native frogs, with an ARC-DECRA fellowship until 2012.
Chasing new opportunities, I moved south to research behaviour of endangered Green and Golden Bell frogs, lead a captivity breeding program for reintroduction in Koorangang Island and co-supervise PhD students at the University of Newcastle, with Prof Michael Mahony. I then settled in Melbourne outskirts working as an Environmental Educator in a council run educational farm. In that position I developed and delivered a wide range of educational programs for children and adults, environmental activities for the community, actively participated in the management of the local flying fox colony, and taught livestock husbandry for TAFE and Uni students in excursions to the farm. I remained in that role for almost ten years, when the winds of change took me to the beautiful Gippsland, where I work as a Project Manager and Consultant, delivering studies on a wide range of taxa: gliders, feral vertebrates, plants, fish and crays, key habitats, birds, terrestrial native mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
From September 2023 I got back to the academia as a research fellow, this time helping to protect and understand the life of freshwater turtles, at Prof Van Dyke's research group at La Trobe Albury-Wodonga.
