Laurel is an experienced clinical nurse specialist in intensive care nursing, having worked in the specialty for over 30 years. She has always had an interest in clinical education with a passion for teaching the next generation of nurses, in particular those undertaking postgraduate education. Laurel has many years experience in clinical education of undergraduate and postgraduate nurses in the intensive care setting, both in Australia and the United Kingdom, where she worked for 4 years in intensive care.

Laurel also has more than 10 years experience as an academic, including postgraduate medical education and postgraduate nursing education. Within these fields, her focus and interest has continued to be within the critical care environments, supporting medical and nursing students through complex theoretical concepts and challenging clinical environments. Laurel has many years of experience teaching in simulated learning environments, including clinical skills education, interdisciplinary scenarios, deteriorating patient scenarios and communication sessions.

Laurel's areas of clinical inquiry and research are varied within the areas of intensive care and education, including qualitative studies of student reflections, interdisciplinary education and student remediation. She has also co-supervised a number of Master of Nursing students to completion of their minor thesis. Laurel has presented posters at a number of conferences, both in Australia and overseas.
