BIO

Dr. Manu Kumar is a highly accomplished and motivated Research Fellow with over 15 years of extensive experience in agricultural science, plant molecular biology, and stress genomics. His career spans prestigious international research institutions in Australia, South Korea, and India, building a robust profile in both academic and applied agricultural research.

He possesses deep expertise in leveraging advanced genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic tools to understand plant responses to abiotic stress and improve key agronomic traits in crops such as wheat and rice. His research is consistently directed towards translating fundamental genetic discoveries into practical solutions for sustainable agriculture and food security.

A proven and prolific researcher, Dr. Kumar has a strong publication record in high-impact journals (h-index 29), has successfully secured competitive funding, and actively contributes to the scientific community as a reviewer and editor for leading international journals. He is passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists and has a demonstrated history of effective teaching and student supervision.

Core Research & Technical Competencies:

1. Plant Stress Biology: Unravelling molecular mechanisms of plant tolerance to salinity, drought, cold, and nutrient deficiency.

2. Functional Genomics & Bioinformatics: Genome-wide analysis of gene families (e.g., transcription factors, receptor kinases), expression profiling (RNA-Seq), and pathway analysis.

3. Crop Improvement: Application of molecular breeding, genomic selection, and biotechnology (including genetic transformation) for crop enhancement.

4. Phenomics & Data Integration: Analysis of high-throughput phenomics data from UAVs and greenhouse sensors to link genotype to phenotype, particularly for Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) in wheat.

5. Model & Crop Systems: Proficient in using Arabidopsis as a model system and translating findings to key crops like rice, wheat, and brassica.

Dr. Kumar is currently applying his skills as a Researcher at La Trobe University, investigating nutrient signaling pathways. He is actively seeking to contribute his expertise to cutting-edge research projects and collaborations within the plant science sector.
