Matt has been actively involved in the IT industry for over 25 years and has extensive experience in network engineering and cybersecurity. He has worked on both sides of the industry table (customer & consulting) in the design, implementation and support of enterprise environments across a wide range of industrial sectors. 

His experience with tertiary teaching began with The IT Masters (associated with Charles Sturt University) from 2007-2023, were he developed and taught subjects in the IT Masters programs. In 2023 he joined the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology | School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Science at La Trobe University as an Associate Lecturer, where he now lectures in Networking, Cybersecurity and Professional Practices.

He is also in the very final stages of a PhD in Exercise Science. His current research centres around wearable technology and the physiological and biomechanical demands in cricket, and injury management in fast bowlers. He is hoping to improve the protocols around the monitoring of bowling demands, with a focus on injury prevention, in particular related to bone stress related spinal injuries.

He also holds a Bachelor of Exercise Science/Master of Exercise Physiology and postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and Tertiary teaching.
