BIO
Dr. Reynolds is a Nicholas Hoogenraad Fellow at the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS). He obtained his PhD in 2009 from the Chemistry & Biology departments of the University of Sheffield. Since then he has held positions at the University of Zurich, CSIRO and Swinburne University of Technology. In October 2019 he established the Self-Assembled Nanomaterials group within LIMS. Dr Reynolds has published 40 papers in world-renowned interdisciplinary journals and has over 1520 citations.
Dr. Reynolds’ research is highly interdisciplinary and focuses on the design, discovery, characterisation and applications of self-assembled nanomaterials. These nanomaterials have applications in diverse fields including tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, sensing and understanding disease.
The goal of the self-assembled nanomaterials research group is to develop biomaterials and devices that have real and tangible benefits to communities in Australia and worldwide. For this to be possible, routes to translate our fundamental research to clinics, facilities and factories must be identified. Thus, Dr Reynolds collaborates with the MedTech industry, clinicians and government agencies to enable the translation of research outcomes into commercial devices, products and therapies. Dr Reynolds has a strong track record of working with industry and hospitals in Victoria, which have resulted in a number of publications and him being named as an inventor on 4 patents. These patents make up part of a suite of intellectual property developed by a newly formed regenerative medicine start-up company (Axcelda Ltd.) of which Dr Reynolds worked for between 2017-2019.
