BIO
Pooranee Morgan is a PhD student in the Haematopoiesis and Leukocyte Biology laboratory at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Insitute. She works on exploring how differences in lipid composition alters the susceptibility of immune cells to ferroptosis, a form of cell death mechanism. Her findings are advancing fundamental biology, determining why immune cells have unique lipidomes and why some cells are resistant, yet others are more sensitive to ferroptotic cell death. The application of these findings will apply to many diseases where the survival or death of immune cells through this pathway is important, including regressing solid tumours, heart disease, and mounting a robust immune response to viral infections or vaccinations.
