Dr Prabhat Lamichhane, MSc, PhD, is a public health researcher and trained health economist whose work focuses on non-communicable diseases, primary health care, health systems, child health and maternal health, primarily in low and middle-income countries. He is particularly interested in the design and evaluation of interventions and strategies to improve health system performance and population health outcomes applying systems science and implementation science.

His methodological expertise spans qualitative, mixed-methods research, quantitative, health economics and evaluation of complex policy and health system interventions. Dr Lamichhane’s current research work includes projects examining continuity of care, strengthening primary health care, obesity prevention, and the social and commercial determinants of health. Across these areas, he is particularly interested in identifying opportunities to reduce fragmentation, improve coordination between services, and develop practical and equitable approaches to improve health system and population health.

Dr Lamichhane has worked closely with policy makers, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to design, implement and evaluate complex health and policy interventions. Prior to joining academia, he worked as an adviser to Ministry of Health and Population in Nepal for a national maternity incentive program. He has published widely, and has been cited more than 2500 times. He is an experienced research supervisor, having coordinated and supervised PhD students, Minor Thesis students and Doctor of Medicine students on their research projects.
