BIO
I completed my PhD in December 2021 with the LaTrobe School of Rural Health, on an industry scholarship with Sunraysia Community Health Services (SCHS). Since this time I have been working both as a academic and a physiotherapist. My primary role is as a post-doctoral researcher with SCHS, supported by a partnership grant from the Violet Vines Marshman Centre for Rural Health Research. I am also the lead clinician for the SCHS pain rehabilitation service and have over 20 years clinical experience working in multidisciplinary pain clinics, in the UK, Adelaide and more recently in Mildura. In my spare time I work as a casual academic for LaTrobe University.
My area of research is the challenges that are faced by people with psychosocial complexity and multimorbidity in self-managing chronic illness and negotiating the healthcare system. I have long been interested in how people come to terms with chronic health challenges – either doing well or badly - and how their relationships with health professionals influences this. In my current research role I am working on two pilot studies to develop new models of care for disadvantaged rural community health populations: a care co-ordination feasibility study (supported by the Violet Vines Marshman centre) and a community paramedicine outreach programme undertaken in partnership with McMaster University in Canada.
