BIO
Ry Haskings is a Department of Creative Arts and English lecturer in the Visual Arts discipline. Ry's predominately practice-led research focuses on contemporary and installation art, with a specialty in the application of abstract art and experimental film narrative methodologies into his own creative visual art practice.
Ry's PhD focused on the application of the experimental narrative structures found in unorthodox approaches to narrative, primarily in film. In the past he has focused his attention on narrative structures found in films such as Luis Bunuel's Phantom of Liberty and Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon. He employs these strategies as a means to organise and build networks of relations between pictures with abstract reference to history, politics and society. These built networks are also made physical through the use of installation and sculptural forms.
Research interests:
Practice-led Research
Contemporary Art
Installation art
Expanded painting practice
The application of experimental film narrative as a contemporary art methodology
Abstract Art methodologies that inform installation art contexts.
