Reece is a MA candidate in the Department of Archaeology and History. His research, using archival and oral history sources, examines the changes in public-facing gay, lesbian, and pansexual BDSM groups across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane between 1970 and 2010. The work uses three case studies to illustrate a proposed model of change from 'perversion to suburban'. And yet, despite changes in how BDSM practitioners engaged with one another publicly, his thesis argues that there was a persistent notion of what constituted a good, ethical, and pleasure-facilitating practitioner.
