Shannon is a Professor in Podiatry and is internationally recognised for his applied research investigating musculoskeletal disorders of the foot and ankle. He served as the Discipline Lead of Podiatry for 11 years. Currently, he is the Head of Department, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, and Prosthetics & Orthotics within the School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport at La Trobe University. 

Shannon’s primary areas of research focus on osteoarthritis of the foot and Achilles tendinopathy, having published several clinical trials investigating interventions for these conditions. According to Expertscape, Shannon is ranked 8th worldwide for expertise in ‘foot’. Further, according to Thomson Reuters Web of Science, he is ranked 4^th overall for the total number of publications pertaining to osteoarthritis of the foot. Shannon has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, 4 editorials, and several book chapters. He has published in the most prestigious journals in the field of rheumatology, such as Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, and sports sciences, such as British Journal of Sports Medicine. Shannon’s research is highly cited.

Professor Munteanu is an experienced research supervisor – he has supervised 8 PhD students, 1 Masters student and 18 Honours students to completion. The quality of his supervision is reflected in the success of his higher degree by research students and their receipt of academic awards. His supervisory strategy encourages students to publish their studies as they progress. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles with students that he has supervised.

Professor Munteanu is currently a member of the Australian Podiatry Association. He has acted as a member of the scientific committee for national podiatry conferences and conducts presentations and workshops at these conferences. He routinely acts as a team member for accreditation assessment of podiatry courses across Australia.
