BIO

Susan is Senior Lecturer, Discipline Lead, and Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice/Bachelor Public Health Promotion course and the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice with Honours program within the La Trobe Rural Health School. These innovative programs address all aspects of paramedic practice, and including pre-hospital clinical management as well as topics such as gerontology and special needs, counselling skills, mental health care, death, dying and grief, and community paramedicine. Susan has current and extensive experience in both paramedic practice and paramedic education in rural and regional Victoria, and has practiced at the level of Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance Paramedic and Clinical Support Officer. Research interests focus on autoethnography and autoephenomenography (combining autoethnography with the philosophical underpinning of Heidegger's phenomenology), socio narratology, and the relationship between paramedic narrative and resilience, education and individual well being.
