BIO

I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Public Health and Head/Course Advisor of Public Health major within the Bachelor of Health Science Program at La Trobe University. I am also a Senior Fellow of Advance Higher Education, UK (SFHEA).

I lecture in both undergraduate and post-graduate health science courses and have been involved in the development, delivery and coordination of subjects across the various year levels. I supervise a number of Honours and post-graduate students involved in public health research with a particular interest in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

I completed my PhD in 2017 titled "Ethnicity, Cardiovascular Disease & Diabetes: A comparison between South Asians and Anglo Australians in Victoria, Australia". In this research I examined migration, ethnicity, lifestyle, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and the relationship with the healthcare system. I am passionate about the health of culturally and linguistically diverse communities including international students and am determined to see better health outcomes for them. I have established global research partnerships in both India and UK and have been engaged in diverse research projects. Currently I am the Deputy Program Director for the La Trobe – JSS AHER University (India), Joint PhD Scheme.

I have been awarded for both my teaching and research having received the Emerging Scholar Award at the International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities & Nations, June 2019, Greece, the College of SHE Provost COVID Innovation & Impact Award for teaching and the 2022 CAPHIA Scholarship of Informed Teaching and Learning Award https://caphia.com.au/2022-caphia-award-winners-announced/
