BIO

Dr Sue Mayes AM is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in a teaching and research role within the School of Allied Health, Human Sciences and Sport. Sue was the Director of Artistic Health and Principal Physiotherapist of The Australian Ballet from 1997 to 2025. Sue has led an industry research partnership between La Trobe University and The Australian Ballet since 2017. Sue has over 30 years of clinical experience and is a specialist in managing hip, ankle and foot injuries, especially in elite ballet dancers and athletes. Sue has completed all her undergradtuate and postgraduate degrees at La Trobe and in 2018, she was awarded a La Trobe University Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2020, her contribution to professional dancers’ health was recognised with a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to physiotherapy.
