BIO
Tim is a historian and social researcher with expertise in equality and wellbeing related to religion, gender and sexuality, particularly in the UK and Australia. He studied at the University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne, and from 2008 was Lecturer in History and Co-Director of the Centre for Gender Studies in Wales at the University of South Wales. Tim came to La Trobe in 2012 on an ARC DECRA fellowship co-located in History and the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, and has been lecturing in the Department of Archaeology and History since 2016.
He has worked as a consultant and visiting expert to numerous inquiries, including to the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in England and Wales, and the UN Human Rights Council investigation into so called "LGBT conversion therapy". He is currently writing a book on the rise of the New Christian Right in Australian politics, a biography of the English theologian and historian, D.S. Bailey, and leads an ARC Linkage Project researching the scope and nature of LGBTQA+ conversion ideology and practices in Australia, in partnership with the Victorian Government, the Brave Network, and the Australian LGBTIQ+ Multicultural Council (AGMC). Tim is editor of H-Histsex, serves as President of the Australian Queer Archives, and is on the advisory board of the US LGBTQ Religious Archives Network.
