Dr Jennifer OatesProfessor, Discipline Lead, Speech Pathology
Jenni is a speech pathologist with extensive teaching, research and clinical experience in the fields of normal and disordered voice production, occupational voice use, and vocal rehabilitation. She is currently Professor and Discipline Lead for Speech Pathology in the School of Allied Health. Her research focuses on the perception, physiology and acoustics of normal and impaired speaking and performance voice, the epidemiology and aetiologies of voice disorders, occupational voice injury, prevention and management of functional and organic voice disorders, the impact of voice functioning on vocational and social participation, and voice and communication in transgender people. She practices clinically at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and the Melbourne Voice Analysis Centre. Jenni is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist and a Fellow of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia. Jenni was the Head of the School of Human Communication Sciences from February 2002 until December 2014 and was also an elected member of the Council of La Trobe University from 2005 until 2009. Jenni is an Adjunct Associate Professor in at the University of Auckland and an Honorary Speech Pathologist and Clinical Researcher at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
