Dr Phil Suter is a freshwater biologist and Emeritus Scholar in the Department of Ecology, Environment and Evolution at the Albury-Wodonga Campus.
Dr Suter has wide experience in biological monitoring of rivers and wetlands particularly in the Murray River Catchment. He ran the biological monitoring component of the River Murray Wetlands Project in South Australia (1988-1993) and currently is undertaking research into the biological communities of Alpine peatlands, particularly in relation to endangered and threatened aquatic macroinvertebrates. He was a member of the Scientific Panel that investigated the environmental flows of the River Murray and Lower Darling River.
His research interests are the ecology of aquatic insects in alpine systems and the taxonomy of Australian mayflies (Insecta: Ephemeroptera). He has published over 50 scientific papers and 11 technical reports.
