TEACHING INTERESTS
Since joining La Trobe Law School in 2017, Julia has taken the lead on subject design, development and review, in order to expand and transform LLS’ offerings in environmental law. This has involved revamping an on-line undergraduate law subject, Environmental and Natural Resources Law, redesigning a course Environmental Law offered to non-law students, and developing a subject Environmental Law offered to Juris Doctor students. In addition, she designed, developed and taught a specialist undergraduate subject, Climate Law. Julia also designed and developed the subject "Indigenous Peoples and the Law" (together with Laura Griffin). Julia has also taught compulsory property law subjects at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Julia is leading a national project to transform Australian legal education to ensure the next generation of lawyers is provided training and support to be ‘climate literate’ or ‘climate conscious’ legal practitioners and have the skills to deliver legal services and promote justice in a climate transformed world.
Julia is committed to continuous improvement in legal education and draws on what she learnt through her Graduate Diploma in Higher Education Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (La Trobe University, 2019) to drive innovation in law school teaching. She was part of LTU’s Vanguard programme to successfully apply to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2020.
