RESEARCH INTERESTS
Our research focuses on improving the productivity, resilience, and sustainability of agricultural systems in the face of climate change and increasing resource limitations. We investigate how crops respond to environmental stresses, including drought, heat, and nutrient constraints, to better understand the physiological and biological processes that drive crop performance. Key areas of interest include water-use efficiency, nutrient-use efficiency, biological nitrogen fixation in legumes, nutrient acquisition in challenging soils, and the role of mineral nutrition in enhancing crop stress tolerance. Working across a range of broad-acre and pasture systems, our research seeks to develop practical strategies that maintain or improve productivity under increasingly variable environmental conditions. A central theme of our work is translating fundamental discoveries from the laboratory and glasshouse into field-based solutions that deliver tangible benefits to growers. Through collaboration with industry, we aim to develop innovative and sustainable approaches that support resilient farming systems and future food security.
Current research themes include:
- Crop adaptation to drought and heat stress
- Water-use and nutrient-use efficiency
- Nitrogen fixation in legumes
- Phosphorus acquisition on highly phosphorus-fixing soils
- Potassium nutrition and stress tolerance
- Pasture productivity under future climates
- Translational agronomy from controlled environments to field systems
- Sustainable crop production and climate resilience
Areas of interest: agronomy, crop physiology, legumes, abiotic stress and overcoming crop productivity constraints.
